SCENIC DRIVES
Nannup, Balingup & Bridgetown Golden Triangle.
This is one scenic drive around Nannup the scenic drive around Nannup that has been classified as the most picturesque in the State.
This drive is special because the Nannup Balingup Rd is a winding sealed road that meanders along beside the Blackwood River and Balingup Brook. The Brockman Highway from Bridgetown to Nannup meanders through the hills so gives a different perspective on the landscape. The drive can be completed in both directions.
Depart Holberry House on Tourist Drive 251 towards Balingup. On the right approximately 13 kms from town is Tathra Winery & Restaurant, a great spot for a cup They have a small museum and wonderful bird life around the tea-rooms.
Half way to Balingup is Wright’s Bridge, another good picnic, fishing and walking spot. Wright’s Bridge is a great place to launch a canoe.
Just prior to arriving in Balingup, the Balingup Lavender Farm is on the right hand side of the road. Set in picturesque gardens with a gift shop and café, it is a proven sensory delight. Then on the left is the Old Cheese Factory. If you have to purchase a present for someone and you are stuck, this is the place to go. Featuring a large selection of English and Australiana antiques, woodcraft and gift lines, souvenirs, café and sculpture garden it is an icon of Balingup. Other places that are of special interest in Balingup include: the Tinderbox, a small store with a wonderful atmosphere full of potions, herbs & ointments, the Birdwood Fruit Winery, the Jalbrook Alpaca Gallery, the antique shops and the Golden Valley Tree Park, most spectacular during autumn with the changing colours.
After Balingup, head south towards Bridgetown through Greenbushes. Take the time to stop at the Living Windows viewing platform of the Greenbushes tantalite and lithium open cut mine operation. New attractions at Greenbushes are the Wattleridge Winery and Small Water Winery.
Bridgetown is a very historic town situated high above the banks of the Blackwood River, with panoramic views. Attractions in this area include: the Bridgetown Cidery, Jigsaw Gallery at the Tourist Bureau, antique shops, Laurenbrook and Sunnyhurst Vineyards. Drop into the Cidery for an ale, they often have live music playing. There are several good walk trails and properties of historical note. Head home towards Nannup on the Brockman Highway, marvel at the karri trees at Karri Gully, where the Bibbulmun Track crosses the highway.
